Cristina Zani

Cristina ZaniFollowing a career in corporate communication, Italian born artist Cristina Zani completed an MFA in Jewellery at Edinburgh College of Art in June 2012. After living and working in several countries, Cristina established her workshop in the Lake District in 2012. In 2016 she moved to Edinburgh where she is currently based.

In 2011, she was awarded a bursary that enabled her to study jewellery in Seoul for four months. Her present work is influenced by the Korean urban landscape. Using a combination of different shapes, colors and geometries, Cristina creates unique pieces. The choice and juxtaposition of materials, shapes and colors echoes South Korea’s somber modern buildings intertwined with bright ancient wooden temples and vibrantly painted palaces. Like those buildings, her pieces show the vulnerability of materials when exposed to time and elements; the layers and colors that slowly transform with the passing of years.

Cristina mainly works with wood, which she combines with precious metals and sometimes stones. Her jewelry pieces are sculptural, bold and tactile; Rings, necklaces and earrings are usually large in scale, but light to wear.
